Which Blood Test Do I Need?
Tell us the concern in plain words — we'll show the exact test to ask your doctor or lab for.
Find the right blood test from a plain-language concern
People often know they need a “sugar test”, “cholesterol test” or “liver test” but not the exact test name to ask for. This free tool maps everyday concerns to the specific blood tests and panels — like Fasting Blood Sugar and HbA1c for sugar, a Lipid Profile for cholesterol, or a Liver Function Test (LFT) — and tells you what each checks and whether you need to fast. You can add several concerns to build a printable checkup plan to take to your doctor or lab. It is educational only and does not replace professional medical advice.
Which test is used for sugar/diabetes?
Fasting Blood Sugar (FBS), Postprandial (PPBS), HbA1c and Random Blood Sugar. FBS needs 8–12 hours fasting; HbA1c does not.
What test checks cholesterol?
A Lipid Profile (total cholesterol, LDL, HDL, triglycerides, VLDL), usually after 9–12 hours fasting.
Do I need to fast before a blood test?
Sometimes. Fasting sugar and lipid tests usually need 8–12 hours (water is fine); HbA1c, thyroid and CBC usually don't. Confirm with your lab.
Is this medical advice?
No — it's educational information to help you talk to a doctor. It doesn't diagnose anything, and a doctor should order and interpret any tests.
