The Ajenza Online Tanpura is a free virtual tambura drone that plays entirely in your web browser — no app, no sign-up and no downloads. The four strings are synthesized live with the Web Audio API, each a long, harmonic-rich plucked note with the shimmering jawari overtones that give a real tanpura its resonance. Set your Sa to any key, choose Pa, Ma or Ni for the first string, adjust the strumming pace and volume, and let it loop as a steady drone for vocal or instrumental practice. It pairs perfectly with the online tabla — run the drone and practise your taal over it.

How do I set my Sa?
Use the Sa slider to choose your key; the note name is shown (e.g. C3, G3). All four strings retune instantly to match.
What do Pa, Ma and Ni do?
They set the first string. Pa (pancham) is most common; use Ma for ragas without Pa, and Ni when the raga calls for it. The other three strings stay on Sa.
Does it work on a phone?
Yes. It is fully responsive, so you can run the drone and change the tuning on any phone or tablet.
Do I need to install anything?
No. Sound is generated in the browser with the Web Audio API — nothing to install and no permissions required.
